MEDICAL/NURSING STUDENTS

We occasionally have medical and nursing students attached to the practice, sometimes observing consultations. You will be informed if this might apply to your consultation, and will have the option to ask for the student to leave. However, if you agree to the student's presence, it is of great help in their education.

THE PRACTICE TEAM

We work closely together as a team which may involve community psychiatric nurses, councellors, speech therapists and other health professionals.

Practice Manager

Desiree Warren is responsible for the administration of the practice. She or Julie Pammenter, the deputy practice manager, will help you if you have any problems or questions which the receptionists cannot deal with.

Receptionists

The receptionists arrange appointments for the various clinics and the doctors. All information is treated in the strictest confidence.

Primary Care Nurses

We have a team of primary care nurses, a specialist diabetic nurse and a health care assistant based at the surgery. Our nurses are available throughout the week by appointment only. They have a mix of skills and specialities therefore it is helpful if you are able to explain the nature of your appointment to the receptionist so that the most appropriate nurse can see you.

Our practice nurses Philippa Woods, Katherine Titheridge, Pam Alcorn and Rebecca Hare can be seen for family planning, cervical smears, dressings, immunisations (child, routine and travel), and also for health advice. They treat minor injuries and run clinics within the practice. Our health care assistant, Doreen Williamson, is available most days for taking blood, measuring blood pressure etc. Our diabetic specialist nurse, Susan Judge, is trained to assess, plan and implement diabetes care in consultation with medical staff. She works solely within the field of diabetes care and can offer advice across the range of diabetes-related issues.

The following health care professionals are employed by NHS Berkshire West Primary Care Trust and work from within the surgery.

District Nurses

We have a team of district nurses. Shelia Flack is our district nursing sister, Maria Holmes is our community staff nurse and Helen Lester is our health care assistant. They are based at the practice but visit patients of all ages in their own homes, delivering skilled nursing care. They can be contacted on 946 1165 between 9.00am and 12 noon - 1.00pm.

Community Matron

Sarah Dragonetti can be contacted on 948 3985. She is concerned with supporting the elderly.

Midwife

The midwife holds regular antenatal clinics as mentioned earlier. We regret that the doctors cannot attend home deliveries, but you may discuss the midwife's attendance with her.

Dietician

Our dietician works in conjunction with Susan Judge and is available once a month on Wednesdays between 2.20 - 4.40pm.

Drugs Counsellor

Our drug counsellor works in conjunction with the doctors.

Health Visitors

The health visitors can be contacted directly by telephoning 920 7513 at the Emmer Green Surgery. They are concerned with child development, supporting the family and health promotion for all ages. They hold a baby clinic on Wednesdays 2.00 - 4.00pm.
