Clinics & Services

We offer a variety of clinics designed to maintain your health and prevent disease, by appointment.

These include:

Diabetic Clinics: run by a specialist diabetic nurse every Thursday morning.

Respiratory Clinics: run by the primary care nurses.

Cardiovascular Clinics: run by the primary care nurses.

Travel Advice: please make an appointment to see the practice nurse at least six weeks before you plan to travel. We can then ensure you receive the appropriate immunisation and general advice. A non-attendance fee of £20 is charged if the appointment is not cancelled within 24 hours. This is because travel advice is not an NHS service.

Baby Checks: are carried out by the doctors on Wednesday by appointment only. Baby immunisation is available from 2.00 - 3.00pm every Wednesday (pre-booked appointments).

Family Planning/Well Woman: all doctors offer advice on family planning, menopause, preconception counselling, other women’s problems and emergency contraception. Coil/implant clinics are held on Tuesdays.

Antenatal Care

Each doctor offers maternity care. If you find out you are pregnant please book an appointment with the midwife. We hold the following clinics:

1.  For your first antenatal appointment (a booking appointment) a clinic is held each Thursday between 9.00am - 12 noon by appointment. This appointment is one hour long.

2.  Follow-up antenatal (booking in) appointments are arranged by the midwife.

Minor Injuries

The primary care nurses and doctors will see patients suffering from minor injuries, or will advise that a visit to a hospital A & E department is necessary.

Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment,with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.  This will include which countries (and areas within countries) you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. 

Can you please fill in the online travel questionnaire to enable the nurse to offer the appropriate advice. The form will need to be submitted online or printed off and bought into the surgery.  Can you also include details of the travel company and tour, if relevant, on the form . If you submit the form online, you will receive an email acknowledgement. Please then make an appointment to see the travel nurse.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

There is a worldwide shortage of injectable typhoid vaccine. Limited supplies of oral typhoid vaccine are available. Click on the area you are visiting below for more details.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible  - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations.  These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.  Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.  Please see Non NHS fees.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a non refundable charge over and above the normal prescription charge.  This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and is therefore a chargeable service.

There is a non-attendance charge of £20 if the appointment is not cancelled within 24 hours.

The Health Visitors work in conjunction with the doctors and can be contacted directly by telephoning 947 4211 at Emmer Green Surgery or 937 2662 at Hamilton Road Children's Centre.

Hamilton Road Children's Centre covers patients living over Caversham Bridge on the left hand side of Caversham Road (even numbers) and in the roads on that side (eg Waterman Place, Thames Avenue, Brigham Road) and in the roads off Vastern Road (De Montfort Road, Lynmouth Road, Norman Place), Kings Meadow and Napier Road.

The Health Visitors are concerned with child development, supporting the family and health promotion for all ages.
